Eric Shannon, Candidate for NH State Representative

Candidate Statement

I am passionate about making connections with other librarians across New England and especially in my home state of New Hampshire. Serving on the ACRL-NELIG board these past two years, as Co-Chair elect and now as Co-Chair, has been a rewarding experience. In addition to meeting and learning from a wide array of New England librarians, this position has given me first-hand experience at planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of different meetings ranging from small informal instruction swaps to our much larger all day Annual Program. I believe my experience as NELIG Co-Chair combined with my enthusiasm for promoting networking among current and future librarians will help me be an effective promoter of events and provider of opportunities for New Hampshire librarians. Having attended numerous ACRL-NEC sponsored events, I know how important these meetings have been for my own career and I want to promote the value of engagement at professional conferences, gatherings and events with others. I think it is especially important to promote ACRL-NEC events to librarians in more remote areas such as New Hampshire, who do not always have the opportunities to attend as many events as those in more centrally located areas. I have enjoyed my involvement with ACRL-NEC and am excited by the opportunity to continue serving as an ACRL-NEC board member, this time as a New Hampshire State Representative.
