Karin Heffernan, Candidate for NH State Representative

Candidate Statement

It would be an honor to represent New Hampshire on the ACRL-NEC Board to bring issues important to NH academic librarians to the attention of our regional chapter of ACRL, as well as to share back what is going on in our busy organization. Two-way communication is essential to the healthy operation of ACRL-NEC. Having served on the Board in the "Member at Large" position, and 7 times on the Annual Conference Planning Committee, and currently on the Open Access Repository (O.A.R.) committee and Program Chair of the CPC, I have some familiarity with the organization and truly value participating with such an active and engaged group of regional academic librarians. Additionally I have served on the New Hampshire Library Association board and facilitated a state-wide reference and instruction librarians group so I enjoy making connections between people and organizations at the state and regional level. In light of current events, I feel strongly that what we do in our profession is more important than ever, and I would sincerely relish the chance to help keep NH at the forefront of an engaged, thoughtful and informed populace through our work in academic libraries by serving as the New Hampshire state "networker" for ACRL-New England.
