Laura Kohl, Candidate for President-Elect

Candidate Statement

It is with great excitement that I put myself forward as a candidate for the position of Vice-President/President-Elect for the New England chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries. I have been serving in the organization since 2009, at which time colleagues who were active recruited me to take part. What I found was an amazing and thriving group of professionals who were passionate about all aspects of academic librarianship. This in turn prompted me to reach out to others to share the good work of ACRL NEC and to encourage librarians and library staff whom I knew to become involved in the chapter.

The projects that I have been able to work on for the chapter have involved helping to create the Information Technology Interest Group’s inaugural DigiCamp, expanding scholarship opportunities, and surveying portions of the New England library population to better serve all of our members. My passion lies in continuing to keep ACRL NEC a highly effective organization that provides innovative and quality professional development opportunities to the membership. Additionally, a focus on expanding our membership and doing our best to offer opportunities that are convenient to members in all the New England states is a priority. ACRL New England Chapter is an organization which holds itself to high standards and often creates best practices for other regional groups. I would be honored to serve the organization and its membership in a leadership capacity.

Sincerely, Laura Kohl
