Business Librarians Interest GroupKathy Berger The ACRL/NEC Business Librarians' Interest Group held a spring program titled, "Bonding with Bonds: What Librarians Need to Know about Corporate and Government Instruments of Debt" on Friday, May 9, 2003. The event was held at Babson College. The program was comprised of two dynamic speakers and a tour of Babson's Horn Library, including its Stephen D.Cutler Investment Management Center. Professor Erik R. Sirri, Associate Professor of Finance, Walter H. Carpenter Chair at Babson College, outlined and explained the different types of fixed income securities and the key features of any fixed income contract, providing attendees with the useful handout, "A Bluffer's Guide to Fixed Income." John Dougherty, Managing Director, Corporate Bonds, for Ingalls & Snyder, LLC in New York City, also addressed the group. Mr. Dougherty outlined his company's strategy for picking high yield bonds. Approximately 50 area librarians attended this engaging event, and many remained to continue the information exchange over lunch in Babson College's Executive Education dining room. |
