Mary White Recognized as ACRL/NEC Librarian of the Year Colleen Anderson, Bryant College Mary White was recognized as the ACRL/NEC Librarian of the Year at the ACRL/NEC annual conference on May 20th at Rivier College. The purpose of the Librarian of the Year award is to recognize an outstanding member of the Association and a librarian who furthers the goals, values and objectives of ACRL/NEC. She/he will exemplify the essence of outstanding librarianship through a commitment to service, professionalism, and accomplishment in the areas of service, leadership, or innovation. The award consists of a plague of recognition and a $500 gift. Other nominees included: Bruce Sajdak, reference librarian at Smith College, nominated by Barbara Wurtzel; Kenall Hobbs, reference librarian at Wesleyan Univ. and ITIG webmaster, nominated by Sandra Rothenberg; Dawn Thistle, Library Director at Assumption College and former President of ACRL/NEC, nominated by Paul Roske; and Julie Linden, U.S. Government Information Librarian at Yale University and former Chair of ITIG, nominated by Melissa Behney. Mary is Library Director at Marlboro College and she was nominated by
Jim Tober, Dean of Faculty, and Ellen McCulloch-Lovell, President of the
College. Their comments about Mary included, but were not limited to,
the fact that she provides "inspired leadership to a wonderful library
staff", "maintains an active presence among faculty, staff,
and students ", "works closely with the development office in
the search for grant funds and gifts in support of the library program",
and "she is a prime-mover in collaborative initiatives with other
libraries in the region and the state." Dean Tober and President
McCulloch-Lovell finished their comments by stating that "Marlboro
College is privileged to have a Library Director as knowledgeable, efficient,
resourceful, and personable as Mary White." Congratulations, Mary! |
