President's Letter

Nancy George,
Salem State College

Just last week, at the ACRL/NEC Annual Conference, the official ACRL/NEC presidential gavel was passed on to me from Colleen Anderson, now Past-President of the ACRL/NEC. After the exciting, yet stressful, process of planning the Annual Conference comes another adventure: my year as ACRL/NEC president.

As I was waiting for lunch at the conference, a friendly member reassured me that the tough part, planning the conference, was over. Smooth sailing ahead!

True, this Chapter is fairly strong and does many things well. Our meetings and programs are excellent, our membership numbers continue to grow, and our conferences draw hundreds of attendees.

But, we can do things even better. I see this year to be one of change and invigoration for our Chapter. There are many areas in which we can improve. The Board first needs to find out what ACRL/NEC members and leaders want out of the organization; the June retreat at Hampshire College will begin this information gathering process. Goals, and the means for achieving these goals, will need to be worked on over the course of the year as well.

This is your ACRL/NEC. Become active. Become leaders. Tell us what you want out of ACRL/NEC. Together we can make this organization stronger and more dynamic than ever before.
