Former Rhode Island Attorney General to speak at Annual NELIG Conference

Sandra Rothenberg, Framingham State College
Chair, New England Library Instruction Group

The NELIG Annual Program is planned for Friday, June 9, 2006 at Roger Williams University in Bristol Rhode Island. The title of the program is "Information Literacy Beyond the Diploma," and will explore the broad concept of what information literacy skills our students will need after graduation, going into higher level academia, the workplace, or every day life.

In the morning there will be a panel discussion entitled: "Information Skills for the Real World." Three panelists will share their experience, expertise, and insights into what information skills are needed to be successful in careers or graduate school, and to become responsible citizens of the 21st century.

These panelists are: Arlene Violet - Host of "The Arlene Violet Show" on radio station WHJJ in Providence, RI and former Attorney General for the State of Rhode Island; Janet Kolodzy - Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism, Emerson College, and Alex Caracuzzo - Associate Head Librarian at MIT's Dewey Library for Management and Social Sciences. A choice of two breakout sessions with two presenters for each session is given for the afternoon: "Information Literacy in the Disciplines" and "Information Literacy in Pre-Professional Programs." All the conference speakers will participate in the closing talk: "All Learning is Local: Giving Students a Stake in Research."
