Information Technology Interest Group Report Janice Schuster, Providence College The Information Technology Interest Group hosted its first program of the year on Sept. 29, at UMass-Amherst. We had a capacity group of almost 40 participants. Anne C. Moore, Director of the Learning Commons at UMass-Amherst, spoke on their learning commons, including how it was conceived, how they got support from the university administration, its implementation, what they've learned, etc. She answered many questions from the participants. After Anne's presentation, Kathy Boyd spoke on her site visits to 6 New England libraries that have implemented learning commons models. Kathy is the library director at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, and her site visits were part of the sabbatical she took in the summer of 2006. Boyd also showed slides of the various learning commons installations. After both speakers, the group split in 2 in order to tour the learning commons. |
