Save the date, May 7-9, 2008, for the Massachusetts Library Association annual conference. The conference will be held in Falmouth at the SeaCrest Resort & Conference Center. ACRL-NEC chapter members will receive a discount on their registration fee.

ACRL-NEC is playing a major role at the conference this year by sponsoring a one-day track of sessions on the topic of advocacy for academic libraries. ACRL-NEC’s sponsorship is being subsidized in part by a grant received from National ACRL.  Susan Parker, Deputy University Librarian and CFO, of the UCLA libraries, has been confirmed as one of the opening speakers. Her study, released this past spring, outlines the changing role of the library as seen by University Presidents and Provosts. They believe the library’s focus must change from being the “heart of the university” to supporting the mission of the university. This new centrality theme will be interweaved throughout the day. Other tentative sessions on advocacy will include marketing, developing a Friends of the Library group, and strengthening faculty relationships through a liaison program.

For more information or to make suggestions about this conference track, contact Carole Myles at 508-767-7020 or cmyles@assumption.edu.
