President's Report Judith S. Pinnolis October, 2007 The ACRL New England Chapter Board has been working hard this summer to update our communication infrastructures and expand programming opportunities for our members. We are now seeing a Fall harvest of some of these efforts. We now have a new mailing list address at ACRLNEC.News and a new, independent website. Our URL for our website is still http://www.acrlnec.org/ , but behind this scenes, we now have the ability for multiple board members in diverse locations to be able to update the website. In addition, our internal communication is stronger with the addition of the new wiki and calendar software. An especial thanks to Val Harper and Louise Buckley and all those others who have worked on this transition to make it possible! I’m excited by the progress our Continuing Education Committee is making under the leadership of Debbie Herman. For the first time, ACRL New England has submitted a request to national ACRL and won $500 for our Campus Advocacy Program. We will be presenting this very exciting program in conjunction with the Mass. Library Association annual conference May 7-9, 2008. ACRL/NEC submitted requests to national ACRL for chapter reimbursements, and after the concerted efforts of three ACRL NEC Presidents --Nancy George, Christine Turner and myself -- we received $1055.00 this year in reimbursement. We look forward to using this more streamlined process in the future. I am continuing to work with national ACRL and members of Chapters Council in developing closer relationships between national and the chapter. I’ve been working the last few months with Melissa Behney on securing a place and date for our Annual Meeting, along with sending topic and investigating speaker ideas. There will be an announcement soon about the wonderful program being planned for the Spring, and so be on the look out for announcements about that. This Fall, in conjunction with Carole Myles, and in following up on the resolve of our chapter to collaborate with other library and higher education organizations, we have come to the question of exactly how to put into place differing types of sponsorships. For that reason, I will be bringing to the Board some suggestions for new mechanisms and procedures to make these new collaborations possible. We want to say a ‘thank you’ to April Levy, who has served briefly as our Legislative Liaison, but also a ‘farewell’ since she will be moving out of the area. We are currently looking for someone to fill this position. |
