The New England library community was saddened to learn of the death of Dick Pantano, longtime friend and colleague, on September 8, 2000. Dick had been at New Hampshire College's Shapiro Library since 1977, most of that time as Director. Many around the state and region will remember his service to NHLA, NELA, ACRL New England Chapter and the New Hampshire State Library Advisory Council. No one will forget his sense of humor and his ability to treat everyone he met with kindness and respect.

On September 15 New Hampshire College dedicated the library art gallery as "The Richard Pantano Gallery" in Dick's honor. A large gathering of family, friends and colleagues assembled to celebrate Dick's life. As one NHC faculty member expressed it: "his genial presence, his wit, and his commitment to liberal education in its largest sense are part of the fabric of our community." We will miss him.
