NELIG Meeting

The next NELIG meeting will be held Friday, November 16th, from 10-1 at WPI (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) in Worcester. Directions to WPI can be found at: http://www.wpi.edu/About/Visitors/directions.html. Meeting room to be announced. The meeting will include a presentation by Kwasi Sarkodie Mensah from Boston College on information literacy services and issues for diverse populations. There will also be a general discussion of current instruction issues/feedback on instructional observation by NELIG members.


PIERCY AWARD - Call for Nominations

The members of the Esther J. Piercy Award Jury are pleased to call for nominations of candidates for the award. The Piercy Award, sponsored by the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services, consists of a citation and a $1,500 grant donated by YBP, Inc. The award recognizes contributions in the areas of collections and technical services by a librarian with ten or fewer years of professional experience who has shown outstanding promise. THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING A NOMINATION PACKAGE IS DECEMBER 1, 2001. The award will be presented to the winner at the ALCTS President's Program during the 2002 ALA Annual Conference. Please submit a formal statement of nomination, the candidate's vita, other relevant documentation, supporting letters, and up to three examples of the candidate's publications to:

NETSL AWARD - Call for Nominations

New England Technical Services Librarians (NETSL) is seeking nominations for the second annual NETSL Award for Excellence in Library Technical Services. The NETSL Award recognizes significant New England-based contributions to the field of library technical services. The NETSL Executive Board members select a recipient based on nominations received, at their February meeting. The next NETSL Award will be presented at the annual NETSL spring conference at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on April 12, 2002. Please send nominations and inquiries to:

WILU (Workshop on Instruction in Library Use) - Call for Presentations

The 31st Annual Workshop on Instruction in Library Use is to be held May 13-15, 2002 on the Fredericton campus of the University of New Brunswick. The theme for WILU 2002 is "River Run: Trends in Library Instruction." The steering committee seeks proposals for presentations, panel discussions, and workshops exploring the future directions of library instruction. The last few years have witnessed significant developments in library instruction. Familiar examples include ACRL initiatives, online courses, hiring of instruction/information literacy librarians, focussed workshops and online professional development opportunities. Where are these developments leading us and how do we direct our future path within the library community and our institutions?
