ACRL/NEC Continuing Education Committee Program Report Susan Lieberthal The Continuing Education Committee ran an interesting and well-attended program January 15, 2002 which was held at Northeastern University. Dawn Thistle, president of ACRL/NEC, introduced everyone to the New England Chapter. Representatives of six of the nine Special Interest Groups of the New England Chapter gave an introduction to their SIG. It was inspiring to hear how active our chapter is and how many wonderful programs are organized and attended each year. After a break Megan Fox, Web and Electronic Resources librarian at Simmons College gave an enlightening presentation on the various types of hand-held devices available today. Not only was it a how-to demonstration, Megan also persuaded many of us that having a Palm Pilot was a good idea, and inspired many of us to get involved in exploring the possibilities for hand-held devices in our libraries. Megan's presentation can be found at http://web.simmons.edu/~fox/PDA.ppt. We hope to bring this program to Connecticut or Rhode Island in the near future. If you would like to host a continuing education meeting in your library, please contact susan_lieberthal@hms.harvard.edu. We are also interested in including library students who may be interested in ACRL programs. The Continuing Education Committee will be organizing more programs in the future. We would also be willing to partner with any of the Special Interest Groups who may want to run a more comprehensive program but need additional resources to achieve this. We look forward to meeting you all at our next meeting. Watch the ACRL/NEC listserv for announcements on upcoming programs. |
