Members: Bob Scheier (Holy Cross), Mariana Lapidus (Mass. College of Pharmacy), Maureen Perry (University of Southern Maine), Janice Beal (Norwich University), Jody Walker (Simmons College), Leslie Simmel (Bentley College), Debbie Herman, chair (Central CT State University) It has been a busy and productive year for the Continuing Education Committee. We met three times this year: August and November 2006, and March 2007. CE Needs Assessment Survey During fall 2006 we prepared a final report for the Board on the CEC Outreach Needs Assessment Survey, which was undertaken during the spring of 2006. Based upon the results, the CEC made the following recommendations:
The full report is available on the Board Wiki as well as the CEC blog (http://acrlce.blogspot.com). In order to disseminate the survey results to a wider audience, the CEC prepared an exhibit for the 2007 Annual Conference held at Brandeis University. The exhibit featured an interactive presentation, which ran as a slideshow on two laptops throughout the day. The presentation is available at the following URL: http://webpages.charter.net/rscheier1961/cesurvey/cesurveyindex.html Programs The CEC co-sponsored the ACRL webcast, The Classroom Will Now be Podcast: Podcasting in Higher Education and Implications for Academic Libraries, held on May 9, 2007 at Holy Cross. Although the turnout was lower than expected (ca. 15 participants), several of the attendees expressed how great it was to be able to view an ACRL webcast at a reduced rate ($5.00 members/$10.00 non-members) and in such as convenient location. The CEC plans to sponsor additional webcasts next year. Membership: Emily Alling (UMASS Amherst) and Susan Herzog (Eastern CT State University) will join the CEC next year. Regrettably, Leslie Simmel is unable to remain a member owing to professional commitments and has resigned. Respectfully submitted, |
