Annual Reports

2006-2007

I. Library School Student Sponsorship

October 2006:  Letters-of-introduction and copies of ACRL-NEC promotional brochure (attached) were sent to three accredited New England library school deans (Dr. Em Claire Knowles, Simmons College; Dr. Mary Brown, Southern Connecticut State University; and Dr. Herb Carson, University of Rhode Island.)

April – June 2007:  The Executive Board offered ACRL/NEC conference sponsorship to two students from each of the three accredited New England library schools.  Unfortunately only two students attended the June 2007 conference; Grant Gigee from Simmons and Talia Resendes from URI.  Two other students (from Simmons and URI) were unable to attend at the last minute while SCSU did not respond to a series of communication attempts.  The two attending students helped out with registration and agreed to write conference session reports for the chapter newsletter.

II. NELA Academic Librarians Section (ALS)

January 2007- present: As ACRL/NEC rep, I have served on NELA’s annual conference planning committee in order for the Chapter to co-sponsor four ALS programs.  They are:

1) Effective Grant Writing. Marlene Sue Heroux (Ref Info Systems Specialist - MBLC ) and Shelley Quezada (Consultant to the Underserved - MBLC )

2) User Studies in Academic Libraries.  Nancy Foster (Lead Anthropologist and Co-Manager Digital Initiatives Unit - University of Rochester); Susan Gibbons (Associate Dean - River Campus Libraries University of Rochester): and Nancy Turner (Senior Program Officer for Research and Analysis - Syracuse University) Note: Sound familiar?  They presented at ACRL/NEC 2006 conference.

3) Digital Collections.  Wichada Sukantarant (Collections Management Services - University of Vermont)

4) Town/Gown Partnerships: How an academic and a public library formed a community partnership.  Kathleen Halverson (Assistant Director/Head of Public Services - Mason Library, Keene State College) and Jean Plotas (Reference Librarian - Geisel Library, Saint Anselm College) Note: Thank you to Susan Raidy-Klein for suggesting this  :  )

As in previous years, our co-sponsorship involves ACRL/NEC providing publicity through the chapter’s listserv, calendar, newsletter, and any other appropriate means in return for ACRL/NEC members to receive the NELA member registration rate discount.  For complete conference details, see http://www.nelib.org/conference/2007.

I have been moderating the listervs of ACRL Jobs and ACRL News for ACRL New England since June 2006, and sending our a monthly calendar. I shall continue to do so through my second term in 2007-2008. I also was involved in the Communications Committee of ACRL New England. In connection with this committee,  I arranged the acquisition of banners for the group. I also was involved in discussions concerning moving the listservs and the Web Site to a commercial hosting service.

Respectfully submitted,
