"Licensing Electronic Resources Program"
Cosponsored by: NAHSL, NETSL, NE ASIST, MAHSLIN, ACRL NEC ITIG SIG, ACRL NEC CE Committee, ACRL NEC Serials SIG, Dartmouth, College of the Holy Cross, Serials Solutions, Innovative Interfaces Inc.

In the good old days, all we had to master was the Copyright Law and Fair Use. We would acquire a book or a journal, post and monitor a "fair-use" photocopy policy, and go on about our activities. Now, instead of receiving print materials, we become connected with online resources. With each new digital information product, there arrives a separate license. Each contains its own private "copyright" terms imposed by contract. This course provides an introduction to license provisions and terminology, comparing the license and copyright, and managing the licensing process. Through lecture, instructor debate and student participation, you will learn strategies for developing a license management model, including building a team for license evaluations and negotiation; conduct a clause-by-clause analysis of an existing license agreement; develop negotiating strategies; and discuss techniques for building a productive relationship with the legal department

"The Classroom Will Now Be Podcast: Podcasting in Higher Education and Implications for Academic Libraries "
Cosponsored by: ACRL/NEC Continuing Education, New England Library Instruction Group (NELIG), and the Information Technology Interest Group (ITIG).

Topic:
Webcast Description: Podcasting is an emerging technology that allows for the easy online distribution of media files. The use of podcasts for both personal broadcasting and as a media tool has grown greatly in the past couple of years. Many institutions of higher education are now utilizing this technology as a method of distributing promotional and educational content. This webcast explores the growing usage of podcasting in higher education and examines how academic libraries fit into the educasting environment. The session focuses attention on examples of podcasts as classroom and library instruction tools and examines how academic libraries can become more integrally involved in podcasting efforts on their campuses.

"Library-faculty collaboration: Bryant University's experience with Blackboard"
Cosponsored by: ACRL/NEC New England Librarians on Online Cource Information Interest Group (LOCI) and the Information Technology Interest Group (ITIG).

Topic:
The presentation will focus on how Bryant librarians and faculty are working collaboratively to create virtual learning spaces within Blackboard sites. The librarians are building customized library modules within Blackboard sites, i.e. the modules include the most appropriate library resources to complete each particular course assignment.

A typical library module includes, at minimum: 1) the most appropriate library databases for the course, 2)useful websites, 3)a link to e-reserves, 4)and information on how to contact a reference librarian. Depending on the course assignment, each librarian uses his/her judgment to decide what other resources might be useful to add.

The InstructionalTechnology Specialist is a key contributor to this Blackboard initiative, since he adds each librarian to individual sites as a course builder.

This initiative was started in the spring of 2005 with one psychology course. It has grown to include approximately 30 course sites. The presentation will cover how and why the initiative got started, the perceived benefits, and the process for developing the initiative.
