Continuing Education Scholarship

The purpose of the Association of College and Research Libraries/New England Chapter (ACRL/NEC) Continuing Education Scholarship is to enable a member of ACRL/NEC to pursue continuing education or professional development opportunities related to librarianship.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a member of ACRL/NEC.
  • The applicant must be employed at a New England college/university library.

Terms

  • The applicant must submit a copy of the completed application form and related documents to the ACRL/NEC’s Awards and Scholarships Committee by February 12, 2010.
  • The applicant must submit proof of employment – current copy of library staff directory – at a New England college/university library.
  • A statement of intent must be provided to the ACRL/NEC Awards and Scholarships Committee as part of the application process.
  • The applicant must clearly identify a continuing education or professional development program. Documentation about the activity – information from the program provider – must be provided with this application.
  • The proposed course of study must be relevant to library work. Scope, level of study, duration, and budget should be given.
  • Consideration is given to library experience and professional activities of the applicant.
  • The scholarship award winner will present information related to their continuing education or professional development experience to ACRL/NEC members during ACRL/NEC special interest group meetings, board meetings, or related ACRL/NEC activities. In addition, the award recipient will be expected to write about his/her experiences for the ACRL/NEC newsletter.
  • One scholarship of up to $500 will be awarded per year. In addition, if the winner is able to attend the ACRL/NEC Annual Conference, the winner will receive complimentary registration and up to $150 reimbursement for travel-related expenses (upon completion/submission of appropriate forms and original receipts) to the ACRL/NEC Annual Conference.
  • The period of disbursement will not exceed one year past the date of the Annual Conference in which the Continuing Education Scholarship presentation is made.
  • ACRL/NEC will acknowledge applications upon receipt via email.

Presentation

Award recipient will be notified as soon as the Awards and Scholarships Committee makes a decision. An
announcement of the winner will be made in the ACRL/NEC Newsletter as well as during the awards and
scholarships presentation at the ACRL/NEC Annual Conference.
