- Planning Committee
The ACRL/NEC SIG Planning Committee consisted of Patricia
A. Hatch, Chair, Library Analyst/Training Specialist, Harvard University
Library Office for Information Systems; Joseph A. Gabriel, Director of
Technical Services, Gutman Library, Harvard University, Marie Lasher, Head
of Collections, McQuade Library, Merrimack College, Noelle Ryan, Serials
Librarian, Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine, Harvard Medical School,
Roberta Schwartz, Head of Technical Services, Ernst Mayr Library of the
Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University.
The Planning Committee met twice during 2002/2003. The group focused on
planning and running the Spring 2003 Program.
This year, we welcomed two new people to the planning committee: Marie
Lasher and Noelle Ryan. Both of them provided important logistical
support for the Spring program; Marie taking in and recording the
registrations and Noelle coordinating the location arrangements. Joe
Gabriel provided administrative support with flyers and Roberta helped
coordinate the speakers for the program. As usual, my planning
committee members came through and put together a terrific Spring program. I
am grateful for their work and support.

- ACRL/NEC Serials Interest Group Leadership
Throughout its existence, the Chair of the Serials Interest Group has
always been an appointed position, that is, the previous chair selected the
next chair of the group. As I have served as Chair of the Group
for 4 years now, I believe it is time to make a more democratic transition
for the next chair of the Serials Interest Group. I am proposing that
the position of Vice Chair/Chair Elect be created, and the person that
serves in the position be elected to a term that will also be determined by
the membership. I will ask the membership for nominations in June, ask
those who are nominated to write a statement of intent, post these on the
web site, and mail ballots to the members in September. I will then
collect the ballots and announce the winner in October. The Vice
Chair/Chair elect will help plan the Spring 2004 program and then formally
take over the position of chair at the May 2004 ACRL/NEC Board meeting.

I am pleased that the Serials Interest Group had another successful year. I
am looking forward to continuing my role as chair and to bringing informative
programs to our members.
