Pat Adams, Sales Director for Blackwell Book Services
Cooperative Collection Development among academic libraries makes it possible to acquire more unique titles collectively. Vendor tools for collaboration need to provide multiple options for collaboration; one size does not fit all. Developing those tools is a continuous process that also includes collaboration: between vendors and libraries. Pat Adams came to Blackwell 10 years ago after 10 years as Acquisitions/Serials Librarian at Union College in Schenectady NY. She was formerly Northeast Regional Sales Manager and, more recently, Eastern District Sales Manager. She has served on the Executive Council of Eastern New York ACRL and a number ALCTS committees, currently serving on Acquisitions Section Executive Committee.
Barbara Preece has served as Executive Director of the Boston Library Consortium since 2000. Previously, she held a number of positions at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) including Acting Associate Dean for Technical and Automated Services and Director of Systems Services. Also, she served as Coordinator of Technical and Automated Services at Shawnee Library System (Illinois) an 18 county multitype library network. She received her M.A. in Library Science from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of New Hampshire. Professionally, Preece is active in the American Library Association's Library Administration and Management Association, and served as the editor for Library Administration & Management, the association's journal. She has written extensively in the area of patron initiated interlibrary loan and document delivery. Currently, she sits on the steering committee of the Rethinking Resource Sharing Initiative and the board of the Open Content Alliance.
Greg Pronevitz, Regional Administrator, Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System (NMRLS), Danvers, MA.
Greg Pronevitz has been the Administrator of the Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System, http://nmrls.org/ (NMRLS) for its entire nine-year history. This state-funded organization's mission is to provide support, training, electronic services, and other services to over 300 libraries in northeast Massachusetts. NMRLS now hosts some 4,000 images from nine member libraries in a CONTENTdm repository. NMRLS partners with the Boston Public Library and Nelinet in the Digital Commonwealth project in creating a statewide digital library for Massachusetts cultural institutions. Greg is past president of the Executive Committee. Prior to his move to New England, Greg spent 15 years in Columbus, Ohio. He held positions at Ohionet (an OCLC network similar to Nelinet), the Ohio State University, and at Chemical Abstracts Service. He began his library career as a cataloger for Slavic materials at the Center for Research Libraries in Chicago. He has written and spoken previously on retrospective conversion, vendor and user trends for electronic resources, and demonstrating the value of consortial services. This session will introduce attendees to the Digital Commonwealth, a project designed to bring Massachusetts digital assets together through a statewide web portal. This collaborative effort by multi-type libraries holds the promise of cost-effectively enhancing access to objects held in digital asset management tools/systems by all cultural institutions and libraries in the Commonwealth. Topics covered will include the goals of the project and its current status, membership options (who may join, why join, and costs), the difference between this statewide portal and an online digital repository (Digital Asset Management System), as well as other technical aspects and considerations.
